Tiziano Treu
Senator and president of the eleventh Permanent Commission (labour, social security)
Born in Vicenza in 1939, Tiziano Treu is a member of the Ulivo Party and a Professor of labour law. In 1995 he was Minister of Labour and Social Security in the administration headed by Lamberto Dini. In 1996 he was reconfirmed by the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi. In 1998 he became Minister of Transport and Navigation under the D’Alema administration. In 1996 he was elected deputy as an exponent of Italian reform, and in 2001 he was elected senator for the first time in the Venice-Mestre uninominal constituency, chose to join the Margherita Party and became a member of the commissions regarding labour and the control of institutions governing social security and assistance.
