Susanna Camusso
A native of Milan, in 2005 Susanna Camusso founded the “Usciamo dal Silenzio” movement (come out from silence) in defense of women’s freedom.
Secretary General of the CGIL in Lombardy, she began her work with unions by coordinating the basic training policies for the FLM in Milan, the joint category for CGIL, CISL and UIL engineering workers. Since 1977 she has directed FIOM, the engineering worker category of CGIL in Milan, following the policies of Gruppo Ansaldo. In 1980 she became secretary of the FIOM in Milan, and in 1986 she became its regional secretary for Lombardy. From September 1993 to the end of 1997 she was the National Secretary of FIOM.
In December 1997 she was elected Secretary General of the FLAI in Lombardy, a role she carried out until she was elected Secretary General of the CGIL in Lombardy, in July 2001.
On January 14th, 2006 she organized a large demonostration in defense of Law 194 and civil rights which brought 200,000 men and women to Milan from all over Italy.
