Renato Ruggiero

Senior advisor and member of the European advisory board of Citigroup
Minister of Foreign Affairs from June 2001 to January 2002, Renato Ruggiero, born in Naples in 1930 with a degree in Law from the University of Naples, is president of the International advisory board of Unicredit-HVB and a board member of Campari. Mr. Ruggiero boasts a long diplomatic career. He has worked for the Consulate of San Paolo in Brazil, and at embassies in Moscow, Washington and Belgrade. In 1969 he was the Italian representative for the European community in Brussels. Between 1978 and 1987 he returned to Rome and held high-level diplomatic positions, such as the managing director for economic affairs and the secretary general for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In that role he assisted in the negotiations for Italy to enter into the European monetary systems, as the personal representative of the Italian Prime Minister at G7 meetings. He has also been the Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister and to the Parliamentary Private Secretary for two Foreign Ministers.
