Pippo Ranci
Dean of the Florence School of Regulation at the Robert Schuman Centre, European University Institute in Florence
Born in 1938, Pippo Ranci was the first president of the electricity and gas authority, from 1996 to 2003, and is vice-president of CEER, the Council of European Energy Regulators. He is a professor of economic policy at the Università Cattolica in Milan, and dean of the Florence School of Regulation at the Robert Schuman Centre, European University Institute in Florence. He received an undergraduate degree in economics and commerce from Università Cattolica (1961) and an M.A. in Economics from Michigan University (1965). He taught monetary and credit economics and economic policy at the Università Cattolica in Milan and the University of Bergamo. Ranci is one of the founders of IRS (the Institute for Social Research) in Milan, of which he was president from 1973 to 1982. He has been a consultant for a number of ministries, including the Department of Industry (from 1974 to 1980) and the Prime Ministership (from 1992-1993). He has published articles and edited volumes on the Italian economy, monetary policy, the non-profit sector, industrial policy and rates of public utility services.
