Mario Monti
President of Università Bocconi in Milan.
Twice European Commissioner: for internal competition, financial services, and taxation from ‘95 to ’99 and for competition policy from ’99 to 2004. Mario Monti was born in Varese on March 19, 1943. He is the president of the Board of Bruegel, the European think-tank established in Brussels in January 2005. At Università Bocconi he has been a full professor of Economics, working primarily on issues of monetary economics, the central bank, fiscal policy and European integration. He has been a member of many commissions, including that of the Treasury Department on the Italian credit and financial system. Editorialist for the Corriere della Sera, currently he is an international consultant for Goldman Sachs International.
