Leszek Balcerowicz

Director of the Department of International Comparative Studies in the School of Economics in Warsaw.
He has been governor of the Polish National Bank. Protagonist in the political and economic life of Poland since the fall of communism in 1989. Leszek Balcerowicz was the Finance Minister in 1991, 1997 and 2000 and he adopted the so-called “shock therapy” which he used to establish a market economy in the country and help Poland become a member of the European Union and enter the Euro zone. Author of the Balcerowicz Plan whose aim was to reduce inflation and increase growth in the country. He has written numerous books and received his PhD from the School of Economics in Warsaw, and an MBA from St. John’s University in New York.
