Leonardo Maugeri
Director of strategy and development for ENI
One of the finest experts in the world on oil and gas, Leonardo Maugeri is the director of strategy and development for ENI, and the author of The Age of Oil. The Mythology, History and Future of the World’s Most Controversial Resource, which was translated into English several months ago by Feltrinelli. Leonardo Maugeri, born in Florence in 1964, started working at ENI in 1994. He has held several roles in the oil division: assistant to the managing director from ’95 to ’98, director of strategic studies and international relations from ’99 to 2000. His contributions to crucial issues of the day have been published by Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, Science, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Oil & Gas Journal. After receiving his undergraduate degree and PhD in international relations, he became specialized in international economics and economics of energy at the London School of Economics and at Georgetown University. He is a board member of Polimeri Europa SpA (An ENI corporation in the petrochemical sector), of Italgas and the Mattei Foundation.
He is also Senior Fellow of the World Economic Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Foreign Policy Association (New York), and the Rand Business Forum (Los Angeles).
