Guido Alpa
President of the national law council
Born in Ovada in 1947, Guido Alpa received a degree in law from the University of Genova in 1970. He has practiced law since 1980 and a professor of private law institutions at the Sapienza University in Rome. A member of a variety of parliamentary commissions, he has been a councillor of ISVAP since 1993 and is a member of the board of the Italian association for arbitration. He is the second Italian, after Alberico Gentili in the Renaissance, to obtain the appointment, in 1998, of Master of the Bench (for life) from Gray’s Inn, one of the five associations in England which, since the Middle Ages, unite and represent lawyers.
He has been a member of the European Consumer Law Group since 1999.
In 1996 he received an honorary degree in Law from the Complutense University in Madrid. He is the author of numerous publications.
