Edoardo Boncinelli

Geneticist and professor at San Raffaele University in Milan
Born in Rodi in 1941, Edoardo Boncinelli received a degree in Physics from the University of Florence in 1966 with a thesis on quantum electronics. He has been the head of the Laboratorio di Biologia Molecolare dello Sviluppo in the Department of Biological and Technological Research (DIBIT) at the Istituto Scientifico H. San Raffaele, director of CNR research at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology in Milan, and director of SISSA-ISAS, the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati of Trieste. He has conducted research on genetics and molecular biology of higher animals and humans first in Naples, at the International Institute of Genetics and Biophysics of the CNR, where he reached important milestones in his career, and then in Milan. He is a member of the Accademia Europaea and of EMBO, the European Organization for Molecular Biology. He has been the president of the Italian Society of Biophysics and Molecular Biology.
