Alberto Martinelli

Full professor of political science at the University of Milan
Born in 1940 in Milan, Alberto Martinelli received a degree in economics from Bocconi University and a Master and PhD in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. He has taught in universities abroad, including Berkeley, Stanford and New York University.
From 1987 to 1999 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Milan. He has been a member of the national council of science and technology since its start.
He is the author of books and essays on the Italian political system, entrepreneurship and economic development and social policies, and collaborates with the most important Italian newspapers.
He is one of the founders of the journal Reset. Alberto Martinelli is president of the International Sociological Association.
From 1984 to 1985 and between 1996 and 1998 he was an advisor to the Prime Ministership for social policies. He has also been the President of the national committee for integration of immigrants; vice-president of the committee for prevention of mafia crime of Milan’s communal council; official representative of the City of Milan in the Eurocities executive committee and a member of the scientific committee of IREF (Regional Institute of Formation).
