Alberto Alesina
Professor of Economics at Harvard University, where he has headed the Department of Economics,
Alberto Alesina
graduated from Bocconi in 1982 and received his PhD from Harvard in 1986.
After two years at the Carnegie Mellon University he returned to Harvard where he became a Full Professor in 1993. From 2003 to 2006 he was the director of the Department of Economics at Harvard. He has published numerous books and articles in all of the most important international economics journals. The most recent books of which he is co-author are: “The Size of Nations” MIT Press, 2004, “Fighting Poverty in the US and Europe: A World of Difference” Rodolfo de Benedetti Lecture Series, Oxford University Press 2005 (translated by Laterza) and “The Future of Europe Reform or Decline” MIT Press 2006 (Translated by Rizzoli as “Goodbye Europa”). He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society. He is director of the political economy program at the National Bureau of Economic Research and for many years he was the editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics. He is an editorialist for the Sole 24 Ore.
